The absolute worst possible circumstance imaginable in our Constitutional Republic is an uncontested seat for Pubic Office. When there is no one in any body of the governed sufficiently interested, motivated, or vested enough in serving the people of their community that seats are left vacant or aspirants to offices run unopposed; they have taken that final step onto the slippery slope of societal failure. A citizenry insufficiently interested in supporting itself is easily led, influenced, manipulated and ruled.
