Orange Barrel Blues!
Well folks, it’s like they say: There’s Good News and there’s Bad News. The Good News is that MDOT is going to completely rebuild M-60 through Spring Arbor Township, so in the end we will be driving on a dandy new road!!! The Bad News is that MDOT is going to completely rebuild M-60 through Spring Arbor Township and we will endure lane closures, rerouting, flag people and all the flotsam and jetsam that comes with road reconstruction. But bear with us folks, because it’s like they also say: “All’s well that ends well!” Here is the plan for your summer driving pleasure:
MDOT Michigan Department of Transportation
M-60
Reconstruction and Improvements
Spring Arbor Township, Jackson County
April- November 2019
What Is Being Done?
The Michigan Department of Transportation will be reconstructing M-60 from Chapel Road to east of Dearing Road in Spring Arbor Township. The project will include the addition of a center left-turn lane between Chapel Road and Dearing Road, a new storm water system (including two
detention ponds), sidewalk, a new section of water main, and a new signal at the Dearing Road intersection. Work will also include intermittent repairs between Dearing Road and Reynolds Road, as well as resurfacing of the M-60/Reynolds Road intersection.
When Will This Be Done?
Construction will start in April and last through the 2019 construction season.
How Will Traffic Be Affected?
Construction will take place in stages to minimize the disruption to motorists and residents. During staged construction, eastbound M-60 traffic will be maintained. Westbound M-60 traffic will be re-routed and detoured onto King Road and Chapel Road for the duration of the project. Short-term closures of the M-60/Dearing Road and M-60/Chapel Road intersections will be required. During the intersection closures, the posted detour route will be modified as required.
