Concord Township, Concord Village & Pulaski Township Joint Fire & Rescue Proposal!

We Need Your Help With This!!!

Concord Township, Supervisor Al Cavasin

Village of Concord, President Jeromy Bush

CFD Chief, Lloyd Mosher

Pulaski Township, Supervisor Bob Jones

PFD Chief, Dan Riley

As your government representatives, we need your advice!

Over the past several weeks we’ve engaged in informal discussions about the feasibility of merging the Concord and Pulaski Township Fire Departments and examining the pros and cons of such an effort.  From those discussions we have come to the opinion  that  combining our Fire departments makes perfect sense from almost every angle we can look at it: a combined service makes better use of the available staff, better use of the available equipment, it’s more economical, more cost effective and offers better service to all of our residents in all of our communities.

So we need your help with this: is there something we are missing?  Something we’ve failed to consider?  Some hazard we are not seeing?  Please let us know!

We know we have a great deal of work to do and it will take a considerable amount of time to put something like this together and make it work.  And before we do that, we need to be sure where our community stands on it.  There isn’t a lot of sense in investing the time and effort necessary if it isn’t what you want.  So talk to us.  Come to the Board meetings, call us, write us, email us, whatever works for you.  But DO tell us what you think.  If we do this, we are not doing it to make life better for us, we’re doing it to make life better for YOU!

We’ve listed many of the “Pros” and “Cons” for this merger below.  Please add anything you can think of to the list.  We need to know!  You can contact us as follows:

My family & I live in 1 township, I work & my children attend school in the other. If this is what’s best for both communities, then what am I missing? Make a pros & cons list. If the merger results in faster response times FOR BOTH COMMUNITIES to fires, accidents, & medical emergencies that could save property & in some instances even save lives. Then please show me the con list that outweighs that.

Sounds like a sensible idea whose time may be overdue. Thanks for the updates. We’re actually enjoying them.

I believe they were merged together in the past. I am not entirely sure what caused the ‘break up’ and why both departments were separated, but I am hoping those differences are talked about, and a solution agreed upon. If not, then it will just be a reoccurring problem. I believe it would be a win, win for both townships if they are able to communicate and work together. The Concord-Pulaski Christmas Basket Committee is blessed with each department for their willingness to be a part of our Community Christmas Basket Delivery every year in the Concord and Pulaski area where each department is represented.

      Hi Robyn!

You are correct, they were one unit at a point in the reasonably recent past, my understanding (but not known for sure) is it was a personality issue that split us up. All the players are different now and I believe we are very comfortable with and confident in each other, so the chances of a recurrence are pretty minimal. No one can know what the future holds, but as for me – I intend to do my level best to make this a long term success all the way around. There is just far too much good, far too many savings and far too many benefits for everyone in both communities not to do this.

It is possible the few naysayers will be able to torpedo the project – IF people by in to them – but for me – I’m working towards a bright, unified future in which we all come out winners. Will you help us with this?

Thanks again for your thoughtful comments, you have no idea how gratifying it is to know someone is reading these emails!

      Stay tuned!
